Patty Liebman has worked in the field of oncology counseling for over 20 years. She graduated from Barry University with a Masters Degree in Social Work and then proceeded to qualify for licensure. Patty also holds an OSW-C Certification, a professional qualification that denotes a specialization in oncology counseling.
In December of 2009 Patricia received the “Unsung Hero” Award from the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The award was to recognize how she has touched the lives of so many breast cancer patients and their families, guiding them through the most challenging journey.
Ms. Liebman has written two successful grant applications to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. One was to fund a support program called Couples Creating a Supportive Response to Breast Cancer. This program offered newly diagnosed women with breast cancer and their spouses an eight week psycho-educational support program. The program was led by Patty and a licensed male therapist. The other grant funded the publishing of a workbook co-authored by Ms. Liebman and Ms. Debra Hansen. It was an interactive coloring and response book to encourage a child’s understanding of their mother’s diagnosis of breast cancer and an avenue to communicate their concerns and feelings.
Ms. Liebman was also involved in the inception of the Breast Cancer Survivor Newsletter. She has written many columns on topics pertinent to the breast cancer diagnosis and treatments.
