Cogmed Working Memory Training

Cogmed Working Memory Training
February 25, 2011

A large research study recently found that 40% of cancer patients have memory difficulties.  Cogmed Working Memory Training has proven effective in improving working memory for individuals who are born with, or have acquired, memory deficits through injury or illness.  Working memory is that part of our memory responsible for "holding onto" things we want to remember as we go about our daily activities.

This program is offered only through qualified providers who must be psychologists or psychiatrists.  It requires performing memory exercises on a home computer.  Data from exercise sessions are logged onto an internet site that is monitored by the training provider.  The provider makes weekly calls to "coach" performance.  It's like having a personal trainer for your memory.  Training consists of five, 30-45 minute training sessions per week for five weeks.  "Booster" sessions are available for one year following the completion of training.
